This morning at 10:18 AM, KVFD was just clearing a call to assist the ambulance in Highland Township when dispatched to a crash in the area of 400 W. First Avenue in Parkesburg Borough. County radio reported that a vehicle struck a house at the gas meter and there was an active gas leak.
Parkesburg police, Ladder 8, Engine 8 and fire police responded. A line was pulled from the engine and firefighters maintained a stand-by until PECO arrived.
Traffic on W. First Avenue was detoured and PECO Energy was requested. An off-duty firefighter from Lancaster city was in the area and reported that the unoccupied vehicle rolled down a hill and into the house. He was able to shut off the gas line.
There were no injuries.
