Why did you join the fire department? |
I joined the fire service in 1994 becoming the 4th generation of firefighters in my family. Following the "foot steps" of Robert "Scats" Gathercole. I started my volunteer career in Westwood Fire Company and moved up the ranks to Fire Captain and Deputy EMS Chief. I then moved on to the Coatesville Fire Department serving as EMS Chief, and Fire Captain.
When my family and I settled in on our new home, I joined Pomeroy Fire Company and moved up into Assistant Fire Chief and EMS Captain. Soon thereafter we began consolidation efforts and I was Acting Chief of PVFC then as the consolidation was finalized the Deputy Fire Chief of KVFD. |

What are your hobbies and/or interests outside of the fire department? |
Outside the Fire Service I enjoy time with my family, dirt-bike riding, antique car events and time with friends & family. |
|
What do you like best about being part of the fire department? |
The "Brotherhood" is like no other and the interest of Firefighting becomes part of your life and remains within you. The pride you feel and friendships you develop all while serving the communities in which you volunteer is a reward itself. |
|
What is your most memorable incident? |
I have many memorable moments in this profession which date back when Pomeroy had the FWD Engine 29-2 which could be heard at Westwood Fire House leaving Pomeroy for call.
On the job I would say a row house fire in West End of Coatesville on Lincoln Highway and experiencing a flash over with some other experienced firefighters of this area. Another will lead me to a Coatesville Fire again and assisting on the Arson Fires and also being at the House Fire on second Ave when two children lost their lives to a fire.
One part of the this Volunteer and/or Career Profession is you will have good memories and bad. Regardless of what you do for yourself its the feeling that you get helping others that drives you! |
