Last night at 7:42 PM, KVFD was dispatched for a two vehicle accident w/fire in the area of the 600 block of Gap Newport Pike in the West Sadsbury Township section. An off-duty trooper arrived on-scene and extinguished the fire with a personal fire extinguisher when he saw the two-vehicle accident with fire coming from the engine compartment of one of the vehicles involved.
Patients were removed prior to the arrival of EMS. On-scene Chief 8 established Route 41 Command and an assessment was started. EMS evaluating two subjects on the ground.
Assistance for Fire Police was requested to shut down Route 41 at 372 & 41 and Zook Road & 41. Assistance was from Station 4-2, 5-2, 4-5 Fire Police as well as Station # 27.
Rescue 8 controlled hazards and checked the vehicle that was on fire. EMS evaluated patients. Medic 3-44 assisted Ambulance 8 and Micu 44-1 handled the second patient. A helicopter was called to the scene and Jeff Stat 3 was en route however, struck a bird. Lifenet was requested and provided an ETA of 10 mins once airborne. A decision to go by ground was made and EMS went by ground.
Ambulance 8-1 / 3-44 & Micu 44-1 transported the patients to the hospital.
KVFD remained on the scene assisting the police with lighting and clean-up for the accident investigation. West Sadsbury Township Police are investigating. Assisting on-scene were the West Sadsbury Township Police & Parkesburg Police
