March 26, 2023

On March 19th, 2023 was the 10th Anniversary of the Keystone Valley Fire Department. On March 19, 2013 the Pomeroy-Parkesburg-Atglen Fire Companies took a vote and officially became the Keystone Valley Fire Department of Chester County Pennsylvania. In 2015 Martins Corner Fire Company of West Caln Township came into the consolidation.

This date was the Official start date of our consolidated Fire Department. The consolidation was a detailed and thought-out process in our individual companies history involving of a combination of meetings from 2009-2013.

The newly unified department will receive integrated training and operational procedures to better serve the region. It will provide a more-coordinated operation at a reduced cost to Highland, West Sadsbury, and Sadsbury townships, and Parkesburg borough in Chester County.

"It has become clear that the combined efforts of the Parkesburg, Pomeroy, and Atglen fire departments will supply a level of service to the citizens of this region that can be the template for future consolidations around the state," said late West Sadsbury Township supervisor Frank Haas.

KVFD has come a long way in the 10 years of consolidated service. The organization has followed the best it can to operational and strategic plans created by Municipal Resources Inc. and downsized the structure of the organization along with the duplication of resources.

KVFD is a self-sustaining organization that has had its strides in the fire service and looking to continue moving forward with pride and service of regionalization.

It has taken some time however, in 2023 KVFD officially brought the part-time staff of KVFD on full-time and KVFD has increased its basic life support service with an additional ambulance staffing.

KVFD continues to monitor the current fire service trends and looks to integrate new ways of recruitment and retention. KVFD currently operates with 30 volunteers and approximately 15 Career Staff. '

The KVFD is overseen by the Regional Fire District which is comprised of Representation from West Sadsbury Twp., Parkesburg Borough, and Highland Township, and the KVFD.
