Passing of Life Member and Past Chief (Pomeroy) Elmer Pluck

Elmer Pluck who is a life member of KVFD and a Past Chief of Pomeroy Fire Company passed away on Friday December 22nd.

Elmer was very active at Pomeroy from 1971 through the 90's. Elmer was dedicated and a voice behind Pomeroy Fire Company with obtaining the Pumper-Tanker Engine 29-5.

Elmer Pluck was the Fire Chief of Pomeroy Fire Company from 1990-1992.

Elmer E. Pluck, III, 77, of Pomeroy, departed this life on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the Pocopson Home, West Chester, PA. Born and raised in Parkesburg, he was the son of the late Elmer E. Pluck, II and Ida Sue Owens Pluck.

Elmer was a 1964 graduate of the Octorara High School, joined the US Navy in 1965 and was a 3rd Class Petty Officer, BT. After leaving the Navy, he was employed by the Lukens Steel Company retiring in June 2012 after 47 years as an electrical maintenance man. He also ran his own mowing business for many years. He was a member of the Parkesburg Baptist Church since 1969.

Elmer was a life member of the Pomeroy Fire Company since 1971 where he served as Chief for two years and Assistant Chief for three years. His best memory as Chief was fighting the Zeke's Oil Company fire in Pomeroy. Elmer also served as chairman of the Sadsbury Township Park Committee for 15 years.

Elmer was a car enthusiast and all about Chevys. His life-long dream was to own a 1965 Corvette that he finally purchased in 1997. After showing the car a few years and starting the Tri-County Cruisers in 1999, he began a 10-year restoration of his Corvette which he completed in 2012. He showed the car in October 2012 at a Corvette show in West Chester, PA winning the Top Flight Award. He was a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society.

He is survived by his wife Charlene Bechtloff Pluck of Pomeroy, two children; Bryan C. Pluck and husband Chris Deitz of Parkesburg and Tedescha, wife of Chris Short of East Fallowfield, two grandchildren; Joshua Short and Madison Short, one great-granddaughter Baylee Bell, one great-grandson Carson Short and one sister Sandra Tracey of Wagontown. He was preceded in death by one sister Theresa Pluck Purcell and one brother Walter W. "Jeff " Pluck.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Wilde Funeral Home, 434 Main St. Parkesburg, PA. Family and friends are also invited to attend the viewing on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM and also Friday morning from 10:00 AM to the time of the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Keystone Valley Fire Department, 329 W. 1st Ave. Parkesburg, PA 19365.
