Daytime Working House Fire In West Sadsbury Township

On January 3rd, 2024, At 9:48 am the Keystone Valley Fire Department along with mutual-aid Fire and EMS agencies were dispatched to the 8000 block of N. Moscow Road in West Sadsbury Township for a house fire.

Chief 8 (Gathercole) and Keystone Valley Fire Department apparatus made the response and were advised by the Chester County 911 Center that the caller reported flames coming from the basement of a house. Chief 8 requested a "Working Fire Dispatch".

Chief 8 arrived to find a 2.5 story single family dwelling with a working fire in the basement on the Charlie and Delta side with extension to the first floor. Chief 8 assumed the command for this incident and requested a first alarm tanker task force to the scene.

Lancaster Engine 49-1 was the first arriving Engine and began suppression efforts. Ladder 8 arrived and assumed the first due Aerial with their crew split to assist with fire suppression and start ventilation along with Gap Fire Company truck 42. Tanker 49 arrived and began supplying water to the scene as West Sadsbury Township has no fire hydrants in the area of this fire. A water supply was setup at the West Sadsbury Shopping Center to refill the tankers. Ambulance 8-1 arrived and provided Rehab services for the firefighters at the scene.

Deputy 8 (Klingler) assumed the operations role of the fire and established manpower pool to the front of Ladder 8. Deputy 8 then disbursed personnel as needed to perform various task ranging from fire suppression, Searches, ventilation and salvage and overhaul. Chief 8 placed the fire under control at 10:25 am with all units working.

The scene was turned over to the Chester County Fire Marshals office and the property owners and all remaining units cleared the scene at 11:27 am.
