As daylight fades into night, landmarks, homes, fire departments, and iconic buildings nationwide will glow in respect for the fallen and their families during Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters.
This week, you will notice that we changed the color of our house lights to red, on the front of our firehouse. Each year, during the week, leading to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial Weekend, we change our house lights to remember and honor fallen firefighters across America. This nationwide lighting on the first week of May is sponsored by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF), leading up to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 4-5, 2024.
During the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, 226 firefighters who died in the line of duty, 89 who died in the line of duty in 2023, and 137 firefighters who died in previous years will be honored. A bronze plaque bearing the names of the fallen will be officially added to the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial.
The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF) will host the 43rd. National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend on May 4-5, 2024, in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This year's national tribute will honor 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2023 and 137 firefighters who died in previous years.
Since 2017, the Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters as expanded to include fire departments and families lighting their homes in red. As dusk turns to dark, landmarks, homes, fire service organizations, and businesses across the country will again glow in respect from May 1-5, 2024, to the fallen and their families. |
