On July 19th, 2024, at 4:02 Keystone Valley Fire Department and neighboring mutual aid were dispatched to the 100 block of Commons Drive in West Sadsbury Township for a reported smoke in the building.

Keystone Valley Fire Department units responded along with mutual aid and were advised by the Chester County 911 Center that the caller reported smoke coming out of an electrical panel in the rear of the building. The caller also reported that the lights for the building were going in and out and that there was a lot of smoke in the back room.

Ambulance 8 arrived and reported a large commercial building with nothing showing from the exterior and confirmed that the building was evacuated.

Chief 8 (Gathercole) arrived and assumed the "Walmart" command for the call. Lieutenant 8 (Delestienne) assumed the operations along with Deputy Chief 52 and led the crews into the building to investigate the source of the smoke. As apparatus arrived, they were given their assignments by the commander.

Interior crews encountered a fire in an electrical panel. Crews secured power to the panel and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire was placed under control at 04:29 by the command. The assignment was scaled back to Keystone Valley, Christiana, Gap, Sadsburyville Fire Companies.

The command requested a phone call from the Chester County and local Fire Marshal's Office and the Department of Health.

Chief 8 terminated the command at 05:45 and made all remaining units available.

Walmart remains closed at this location and the property management team is addressing the electrical fire issue. The scene has been turned over to Walmart representatives.

Units: Keystone Valley Fire Department
