By KVFD
November 3, 2024

On today's date at 0401 hours KVFD was dispatched for a brush fire in the area of the 300 Block of Quarry Road in West Sadsbury Township. On-scene Rescue 8 reported 1/4 of an acre on fire with the fire spreading throughout the woods.

Chief 8 arrived on-scene and Assumed the Quarry Road Command and requested two additional field pieces and two additional tankers for a non-hydranted area. The property itself was burning along with a 10 x 8 shed. The fire was spreading throughout the wooded area which was dry and leaf covered.

Crews started fire suppression from Rescue & Tac 8 and worked to the head of the fire which was approximately 1.4 Acres on fire. Additional manpower was requested. Brush 31 entered the wooded area and started fire suppression and White Horse FC assisted from Reiffer Lane helping create a fire line from the location of the fire to Reiffer Lane and approximate 1.4 acres of woods. Squad 49 assisted supplying fire suppression lines to the wooded area.

Engine 8 laid a line down the drive-way to the arriving mutual-aid tankers bringing water. Tanker 8 supplied the scene.

Crews were assisted by mutual-aide on-scene. Incidents such as this require manpower and personnel working on the ground to create a fire line and work on extinguishing the fire.

The fire was placed under control one-hour into the incident with all crews working. Several thousand feet of hose was used and approximately 10,000 gallons of water on-scene.

This incident was a result of open burning which took off overnight. Crews worked through the early morning hours.

Thank you to West Whiteland Brush 6 and West Bradford Engine 39-1 for covering the District while units operated on-scene.

Thank you to our Mutual-Aid partners for your assistance throughout the early morning hours.
